Our research

The scientific activities of Bioelectrogenesis are organized in two areas:

Laboratory/indoor studies focus on:

  • Designing and running bioelectrochemical devices for electricity and hydrogen production from wastewater and vegetal residues
  • Studying physiology of electrogenic bacteria

  • Identifying electrogenic biomolecules on bacterial membrane

  • Optimizing the bacteria-electrode interaction by nanotechnology tools

Environmental/outdoor applications focus on:

  • Studying sedimentary MFCs fuelled by rice/wetlands crops

  • Identifying and characterizing electrogenic populations in natural environments

  • Designing applications for field biosensors operating at remote environments

  • Stimulating in situ bioremediation of pollutants
