Members of Bioelectrogenesis group are involved in teaching, mentoring and outreach of students at both undergrad and graduate level. In addition, we are convinced that science dissemination and divulgation are key for informing society about our enviromental friendly activities but also for creating vocations among the youth. Concerning this we are proud of attend all scientific fairs of the region. Our level of compromise with the social communication of science requires the presence of professionals in this field in our team. Science communication by itself deserves to be investigated.
Some of our formal activities are listed below. Undergrad courses Enviromental Engineering and Basis of wastewater treatment are both Enviromental Sciences course at University of Alcalá, where Dr. Boltes and Dr. Esteve-Núñez teach the principles that control the biological treatment of wastewaters. Bioreactors. This course was developed by Dr. Esteve-Núñez at University Francisco de Vitoria to introduce last year students of Biotechnology into the design and use of bioreactors for the culture of living cells. Graduate and Master courses Master of hydrology and water management. This master belongs to the graduate programme of University of Alcalá and Dr. Esteve-Núñez and Dr. Boltes are lecturers. Some of this master’s students will develop their research project in our group. Master in engineering and management of water. This master is offered at the Business School (www.eoi.es) in Madrid. Dr. Esteve-Núñez is responsible for teaching water microbiology to grad students that will be specialist in water technologies. Molecular Biology of Microorganisms. This course belongs to the graduate program of Biology at Complutense University and Dr. Esteve-Núñez lectures about Systems Biology and new tendencies in Metabolomics. Science fairs All members of our group lead divulgation activities in the regional science fairs organized by madri+d, the regional network for the development of information and technological systems promoted by the Autonomous Community of Madrid within the European Union framework. Those events are the perfect scenario for setting up experiments and assays for general audience as they can see, touch and understand the enviromental applications of our research. |
